CHILDREN’S STORY – NIBI’s WATER SONG
“Nibi is the Anishinaabemowin word for water. In Nibi’s Water Song, an Indigenous girl on the search for clean water to drink. Though she is faced with repeated obstacles, Nibi’s joyful and determined energy becomes a catalyst for change and action as her community, and then in widening circles the country and government, rally around her to make clean drinking water available for all. In a story perfectly levelled for young readers, there is a strong underlying message that even when a problem seems too large to face, every bit that everyone does helps. And inaction in the face of a wrong is not an option.
Sunshine Tenasco, an Anishinabeg activist for clean water, has an amazing optimistic spirit that shines through her writing. The hopeful tone and lyrical read-aloud quality of this gentle allegorical tale open the door to conversations and action aimed at young children, whether they are on a reserve that does not have clean water or they are living with access to clean water. Chief Lady Bird’s stunning, original artwork carries through the themes of strength, hope, and resilience in an incredible collaboration of talent. “

Whenever I teach, I invite you to explore the many layers to life and the Self. When I teach yoga, I help you go inward, slow down the “fight or flight” response, and to move through feelings from the seat of the observer, rather than the judge. All of my teachings are Earth based. I reference the Earth, Gaia, Mother Nature often and incorporate her into all of my meditations, yoga and workshops. As a natural lover of astrology and a student of Reiki, I discuss Chakras and bring energy work into all that I do. I strive to foster the connection to the earth, empower the light within each individual, and teach each student that they know themselves better than any outside source ever will. As a yoga instructor, and spiritual coach, I act as a guide, taking you to places of hidden wisdom within yourself, to uncover your greatest potential and whole health.

Wellness starts with us as individuals taking responsibility for our own health and well-being. The Iroquois Candle Co. recognizes the need for health and happiness in a world that is so busy that we forget to take care of ourselves. For that reason we make every candle with a healthy mind, pure intentions, love and, a prayer. We believe that a candle can encourage us to create a holistic state of wellbeing when we take time to appreciate and nurture our physical, mental, spiritual and emotional conditions. That is why Iroquois Candle Co. was conceived. A percentage of every candle purchased will be donated to an on reserve shelter, to aid in ENDING Family Violence.

Antler River ~ Authentic. Aboriginal. Art.
I have been making Indigenous crafts since 2003 and doing the leather tooling since 2015. I First started learning from my Grandpa when I was 12 years old even younger. I remember helping cut leather lace, glue projects together, and weave dream catchers. For a long time I was just helping, I went to high school and college and then started making things again after college (I guess the bug to want to create never leaves you). For the most part I am self taught for many of the things I make now. Throughout my life my teachers who continue to inspire me all the time are definitely my Grandpa, my crafty aunties, my community of Deshkan Ziibiing “Antler River” (Chippewa of the Thames First Nation), and of course nature.

Like most Northerners, our family proudly wears fur. My parents, David and Jane Dragon raised six children, and dressed us with furs from their trapline. Mom made our hats, mittens, mukluks, and parkas. Setsuné (grandmother in Dënesųłiné), is a talented seamstress and has been sewing with furs and hides most of her life. My son, Joel Dragon Smith, an avid snowboarder, would be outside for hours in temperatures dropping below -30°C. He came home with near frost-bitten hands and I had the idea to stuff a piece of beaver fur into each of his gloves. Joel and his friends finally had warm hands, and these little pieces of fur were the first prototypes of Aurora Heat™ warmers!
